Hi, I'm Eric Ness. Jack of all trades, and master of the important ones. I don't spend all my time developing the front-end to websites, but I can. I don't design for print often, but I can. I'm not a software developer, but I can write code. I don't always write a script, scout a location, light the set, direct the shoot, deliver lines as the only actor, and then edit the footage into a finished video, but I have. Highly motivated, persuasive, and articulate, I am well-versed in crafting creative solutions while meeting time and budget constraints. I am not a specialist. I don't know everything there is to know about one task. I am an expert generalist. Give me a week and I'll know enough about that task to ensure the project ships.

jQuery - enhancing Online Help

After discovering the help authoring tool we use didn't offer the features we needed, I learned enough jQuery to write a simple script that levereged open-source plugins (and a few I wrote myself) that added the required functionality.

Work Experience

2014 - Present

Wonderbox Technologies, LLC

Information Architect

As an Information Architect I evaluate, recommend, install, and manage hardware and software tools and solutions to support information development deliverables and the Technical Communications team. Configure and manage source control software; develop and maintain online help architecture including project configuration, page layouts and project templates, web-based skins, and cascading style sheets. And I also configure and manage video source files; develop and deliver technical videos in a variety of video formats.

2010 - 2014

Wonderbox Technologies, LLC

Information Developer

I was responsible for developing, writing, and maintaining a variety of internal and external-facing projects including the Enterprise System online help, printed guides, websites, and videos.

2006 - 2010

Dowling Studios, Inc.

Digital Media Manager

I managed anything that could be measured in bytes or that made use of a circuit board. Attended industry tradeshows, drafted emails, and ensured the right people received the right message at the right time. Replaced the ever-expanding collection of external storage with a robust and maintainable archive and backup solution. Developed a simple application allowing photographers and office staff to compile a selection of images into a consistently branded PDF document small enough to send in an email.

My Interests

Outside of work, I also enjoy building and overclocking computers, refinishing antique furniture, trying out new recipies on my wife and son, and collecting mechanical wristwatches. While I don't have the time to be competitive, my wife and I still drag our bows to the archery range from time to time. I'd also like to think I'm pretty handy, and have come to enjoy troubleshooting, repairing, and occasionally improving things around the house.
